How have you been? These couple of months I have taken up knitting, something that I haven’t done since I was a child.
Currently in Ireland, schools are shut down amid COVID-19 outbreak, and I have been working from home whenever possible and was off work for couple of days as well, which gave me time to work on this.
I decided to try and knit a jumper for my 2 year old first and he loved it ( I will post this pattern in a little while), but of course my 6-year old wanted one as well.
My 6-year old loves comfy clothes so I decided to make him a hoodie to wear at home instead of his usual pj tops.
I adapted another pattern that I found online for sizing and such.
Material: I used 2 different colors from the same Baby Yarn range.
Size: 4 (2, 6, 8) years.
Skill Level: Easy
Back: using the yarn specified above and no. 4.5 knitting needles, cast on 38 (34, 42, 46) stitches. Knit 4cm rib 1×1. Then using 5mm knitting needles knit in st st until reaching 27 (23, 31,35) cm from cast on edge, for arm hole shaping, on both edges, bind off 3 sts, 2 sts and 1 sts. When the piece measures 43 (38, 48, 53) cm bind off the remaining stitches.
Front: using 4.5 mm knitting needles, cast on 38 (34, 42, 46) sts. Knit 4cm rib 1×1. Then, using no. 5 mm knitting needles, knit in st st until reaching 27 (23, 31, 35) cm from cast on edge, for armhole shaping, on both edges, bind off 3 sts, 2sts, 1 stitch. At 40 (36, 44, 48) cm from cast-on edge, for neckline shaping, bind off 8 central stitches, then on both edges of the letters, decrease 3sts, 2 sts, and 1st. When piece measures 43 (38, 48, 53) cm bind off the remaining sts.
Sleeve: using 4.5 mm knitting needles, cast on 18 (14, 20, 22) sts. Knit 5 cm rib 1×1. then using 5 mm knitting needles, knit in st st and, on both edges, increase 1 stitch every 6 rows (6 times). At 28 (25, 31, 34) cm from cast-on edge, for armhole shaping, on both edges, bind off 3 sts, then on both edges, decrease 1 stitch every 2 rows 8 times. when the piece measures 38.5 (34.5, 42.5, 47) cm, bind off the remaining stitches. Make the second sleeve like the first one.
Hood: Using 5 mm knitting needles, cast on 40 (36, 42, 46) sts. Knit st st till 3 cm from cast-on edge, then, on both edges of two central stitches, increase 1 st ever 2 rows 3 times. Then, at 20 (18, 22,24) cm from cast-on edge, on both edges of the 2 central sts., decrease 1 st every 2 rows, 4 times. Fold the hood in half, distributing the sts on 2 knitting needles. using a bable needle join two pieces together in purl st.
FINISHING: Sew the shoulders. Join the hood to the neckline. Sew the under-sleeve and the side seems.
A number of people have asked me for the pattern so I decided to share here my patterns that I will be using in future:)
Hope you all have a good day and stay safe.
