“We need people pushing the boundaries. Exploration is what we, as humans, do”.

There is one place that is close to our home that we haven’t got to visit yet and every time we think of going for a walk, it comes up in my mind – Kell’s Girley Bog.
Girley Bog is located in Co. Meath in Ireland, near town called Kells, where the famous book of Kells (that can be seen in Trinity College Dublin) was created.
Girley bog is approx. 3.5 miles / 5.6 km long loop. The first part of this walk takes you through Coillte forest with a lot of coniferous trees. What is unusual about this forest is that it is located on high bog.
I would imagine it looks something like this:

From this forest, a path leads you to one of the last remaining raised bogs in Co. Meath.
According to literature, there are a lot of birds and other fauna that can be seen on this walk.

My wife and I plan to visit Ireland in a couple of years. I’d never thought of visiting a bog before. I’m glad I read this post and your post about 5 favorite things because now I have new ideas about things we can see when we visit.
