I had a tough academic career. Not tough in sense of work itself but more so personalities that I had to work for or be colleagues with.
I was a post-doc for 8 years minus 1 year that I was on maternity leave in total for both my kids.
I won’t go into much detail about what happened, I wrote about that in my earlier blogs. After 8 years, I felt like a complete failure. I knew I would be miserable if I stayed in that job.
Luckily, recruiter reached out to me just in time for Biopharma job, before my academic contract finished, and after successful interview, I had my job.
Since then I have been on the up and up. Getting permanent contract, being promoted 3 times in space of 5 years. I enjoy and take pride in what I do. People are respectful. Disrespect is not tolerated, regardless of your position.
So grass is sometimes greener on the other side.
